Editor's Note
Shanghai Daily has just recruited six new reporters out from hundreds of applicants to help the newspaper to develop. (Transferring from 20 pages of broadsheet paper to 48 pages of compact paper has almost doubled the number of stories we publish every day.) To keep our newsroom transparent to our readers, which is the main purpose of this blog, the online department has asked these fresh people to introduce themsevles to you.

My name is Zhou Tao, I’m a new reporter at Shanghai Daily. My first name, Tao, means strategy but unfortunately, it is something of a misnomer.
To better illustrate what sort of a person I am, I think it's better to share with you my preferred things, from which you can easily see my character.
From the time my hands could barely hold a pencil, it seemed I am naturally born with the talent to leave marks on everything with any material, which later became my career — painting.
When I was in junior high school 10 years ago, I was for the first time captured by Japanese manga (comic). The first manga I read was “City Hunter” by Tsukasa Hojo, who is my favorite artist. Inspired by “City Hunter” and Tsukasa Hojo, I was determined to be a manga author. In order to learn how to draw, I entered an artistic academy instead of an ordinary university after graduation from senior high school.
Cross Talk, or “comedy dialogue”, was the "enlightenment" of my art long, long ago when I was a small kid. I listened to Niu Qun and Feng Gong's "thieves' company" so often that I can perform it without missing a word. Besides that, I admire great masters such as Ma Sanli, Hou Baolin and other good actors including Ma Ji and Jiang Kun.
I think humor is very important. It's the weapon of witty people who don't have real POWER. It's believed tragedy is a noble art, but I think comedy is, too. It can free you from pressure, defend you in front of evil, get you out of embarrassment. Thus I think, besides cross talk actors, Feng Xiaogang and Ge You are two geniuses, who continue to promote the spirit of humor in their comedy films, especially in "Big Shot's Funeral."
Anyway, I don't know how well I can do as a reporter, but I will try my best to do the job well and more importantly, be a righteous and humorous guy.
